Ann Curry
Ann Curry, an American photojournalist and journalist who has reported on wars and natural disasters for nearly 45 years. Her focus is on the suffering of those living in these regions. Curry has reported from the wars in Kosovo Iraq Syria Lebanon Palestine Afghanistan Darfur Congo and the Central African Republic. Curry was born in Japan, and raised by an Japanese mom. Her father was a U.S. Navy sailor. Curry's parents met in Japan, where her father had been stationed following World War II. Due to her father's military service, the family relocated often. They eventually moved to Ashland Oregon where Curry attended high school. In 1978 she graduated from the University of Oregon with a bachelor's degree in journalism. In the end, she was able to graduate from Ashland High School. While working as an intern for KTVL Channel 10 Medford, Oregon, she started her career as a broadcaster. She became the first female news reporter for the station at was 22. Then she was promoted to reporting and anchoring at KGW, an NBC-affiliated station located in Portland. After four years of service, she was appointed a reporter by KCBS TV in Los Angeles. She won two Emmy Awards during the six years that she worked for this station.
